Jammed lock in Brussels

Key won't turn, broken key, door stuck: 24/7 call-out

Freeing the lock without making it worse

A lock usually gives warning signs before it fails: a key that catches, a door that sticks.

When it jams completely, stop forcing it. You could break the key inside the cylinder and make the job harder.

  • Key broken in the lock
  • Key that won't turn
  • Misaligned multipoint lock
  • Door that sticks or rubs

How the call-out works

1

Diagnosis

We find the source of the problem: cylinder, lock or door.

2

Freeing

We extract the broken key or open the jammed door.

3

Lasting fix

Adjustment, repair or replacement, whichever is safest.

The most common causes

  • A worn or dirty cylinder.
  • A door that has moved: damp, swelling wood, sagging hinges.
  • A misaligned multipoint mechanism.
  • A worn or badly copied key.
  • An attempted break-in that damaged the cylinder.

Key broken in the lock

Do not try to pull out the piece with a sharp object: you may push it further in. We extract the piece, then check the cylinder.

Repair or replace?

If the problem comes from the door (hinges, strike plate), an adjustment is enough. If the cylinder is worn, it is better to replace it: see lock replacement. We explain the choice before we start.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most

Can I put oil in my lock?

Avoid cooking oil and thick grease: they trap dust. A dry lubricant, such as graphite or a lock spray, works better.

My key turns but nothing happens: why?

The cylinder mechanism is probably broken. The door must be opened and the cylinder replaced.

My door only locks if I lift it: is that serious?

It is often a door or strike-plate adjustment. Better to fix it quickly: forcing it every day wears the lock.
